Energy Management System Trainings for Egyptian Industrial Parks in Robbiki, Polaris and Orascom

GEIPP Egypt delivered a 2-day training at the resident companies of Robbiki, Polaris and Orascom industrial parks. The training mainly targeted the technical staff of these companies that are concerned with energy and environment and the technical staff at the Egyptian industries at large.

The training focused on the main pillars of Energy Management System following the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle of continual improvement for energy management, with the objective of supporting industries in effectively managing their ongoing energy consumption, identifying opportunities for adopting energy-efficient technologies, including those opportunities that do not necessarily require significant capital investment.

The first round of the training was held at the Robbiki Industrial Park in Badr City on 17 and 18 December 2023. The second round was held at Polaris Industrial Park on 20 and 21 December 2023. While the third round took place on 3 and 4 January 2024 at Orascom Industrial Park in Ain Sokhna.

The training also included a session on Measurement and Verification (M&V) techniques to ensure energy efficiency and optimize the performance within the production process. The session aimed to empower managers and operators to monitor energy consumption, identify the root causes of energy losses, pinpoint areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with energy and sustainability goals.

The training is organized within the context of the identification, development and testing of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (#RECP) tools and methods for the diverse conditions in developing and emerging economies as one of the objectives of the Global Eco Industrial Park Programme (#GEIPP).

GEIPP aims at the scaling up of RECP approaches to the level of eco-industrial parks (#EIPs). This allows for the integration of RECP support at the level of enterprises and parks and for the consideration of critical policy issues. The overall development objective of the GEIPP is to demonstrate the viability and benefits of EIP approaches in scaling up resource productivity and improving economic, environmental and social performances of businesses. The GEIPP thereby contributes to inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the participating developing and transition economies.

In Egypt, the programme supports the government’s efforts to improve economic, social and environmental performance of the industrial zones by supporting industrial policies and legislations necessary in order to establish sustainable industrial zones. Furthermore, the programme provides technical support services to agencies responsible for managing the industrial zones, service providers and small-and-medium-sized factories. The programme is funded by the Swiss Government through SECO Economic Cooperation and Development (#SECO) and implemented by UNIDO-Egypt, in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry (#MoTI).
