Training-of-Trainers for Eco-industrial Parks in Egypt

In the framework of the Global Eco-industrial Parks Programme (#GEIPP)– Egypt, currently implemented in Developing and Transition Countries, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (#SECO), and implemented by UNIDO in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (#MoTI), the 3rd and final training in the series of the Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) in-class trainings took place on the 25th of July.

The third training course “Identification of Industrial Synergies” was organized and instructed by a consulting consortium consisting of #SHiFTERRA Consultancy (Egypt) and AIH #Econogistics (South Africa), and it introduced the concept of industrial synergies, its different types, and how it relates to circular economy. The detailed development stages of industrial synergies were explained and attendees were trained on using UNIDO’s industrial symbiosis tool. Additionally, the course presented ongoing attempts of EIPs in Egypt, and the different success factors and challenges faced. The course was attended by professionals from environmental, social and economic ، backgrounds, in addition to participants from governmental institutions, and academia. The three in-class training courses will be complemented by a practical on-job training that should take place in September to give the participants an opportunity to apply the knowledge they gained practically in different pilot industrial parks under #GEIPP.
