Resource Efficiency and Clean Production Training

In line with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) Global Eco-Industrial Park Programme, the GEIPP-Egypt project hosted a comprehensive two-day training session on Resource Efficiency and Clean Production (RECP). This initiative aims to bolster industrial sustainability and environmental stewardship within Egypt’s industrial sector.

The primary objective of the training is to equip industries with the tools and knowledge necessary to establish efficient monitoring systems for material and energy flows within their processes. Additionally, participants will learn to identify sources of pollution and inefficiencies, explore RECP options, and implement strategies to enhance environmental performance. Furthermore, the training will guide industries in formulating Environmental Management System (EMS) policies and action plans, emphasizing the importance of internal management procedures for achieving cost savings and operational excellence.

Organized across multiple rounds, the training was conducted over two days at each of the beneficiary Industrial Parks (IPs) under the purview of GEIPP-Egypt:

  • Orascom Industrial Park, Ain Sokhna, Suez: January 22nd to 23rd, 2024
  • Robbiki Industrial Park, Badr City: January 28th to 29th, 2024
  • Polaris Industrial Park, Giza: January 30th to 31st, 2024

Key topics covered during the training included:

  1. Cleaner production assessment, focusing on energy consumption, process losses, pollution sources, and potential cleaner production options.
  2. Overview of Environmental Management System (EMS) design and implementation, encompassing essential aspects, requirements, benefits, and management responsibilities.

While the primary audience for the training comprises technical staff from resident companies within the beneficiary IPs, participation is was encouraged from technical professionals across Egyptian industries. In particular, the inclusion of female professionals is strongly advocated to promote diversity and inclusivity within the industrial sector.

The initiative underscores UNIDO’s commitment to fostering sustainable industrial practices and promoting environmental responsibility. Through collaborative efforts and knowledge-sharing initiatives like the RECP training, GEIPP-Egypt endeavors to drive positive change and facilitate the transition towards a greener, more sustainable industrial landscape in Egypt.
